The McKnight Foundation
has indicated an interest in the proposal and has requested additional information about the
proposal by December 1, 2005. Mr. Trudgeon explained under the proposal, McKnight
Foundation grant money would fund four forums that would have nationally recognized speakers
focusing on future regional land and social trends, transportation alternatives, innovative zoning
techniques, and community ecology. These public forums would help educate and build
capacity for policy makers, staff, and citizens on these topics. Subsequent to these forums, a
unique public meeting using Open Space Technology will help gain consensus on how the City
should grow. The funding is also designed to provide for resources for the staff and policy
makers in implementing the outcomes of the process.

City Council Work Session / November 22, 2005
Page 1 of 2
