AD INISTRATION December 29, 2022 Contact: Erik Thorson, Communications Director, 763-324-4612, or e-mail: Erik.Thorson(co.anoka.mn.us FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Anoka County, Partners Secure More Funding for Highway 65 Improvements The Anoka County Board of Commissioners, the City of Blaine and the Minnesota Department of Transportation worked with the House and Senate Congressional delegation to secure $9 million for improvements along Highway 65 in the City of Blaine. A total of $5 million was awarded to the Highway 65 and 109th Avenue intersection, and $4 million was awarded to the Highway 65 and 99th Avenue intersection. Anoka County was also able to secure another $10 million in December through the Metropolitan Council 2022 regional solicitation process for improvements along the Highway 65 corridor. "Anoka County and its partners have been working for years to obtain funding for planned improvements along Highway 65, from 99th Avenue to 117th Avenue, which has a crash rate eight times higher than state average," said District 3 Anoka County Commissioner Robyn West. "These funds will certainly help in the process of making enhancements to alleviate the regular congestion and improve safety on this highly used corridor." District 2 Commissioner Julie Braastad noted collaboration is essential to improving Highway 65. "I want to commend our regional and state partners, including Representative Tom Emmer and Senators Amy Klobuchar and Tina Smith, who submitted the funding requests for the $9 million," she said.
