CASE #3
UPDATE ON ELMCREST PARK
By: Leonard Linton, Civil Engineer

Background:

The parking lot at Elmcrest Park was constructed in 2004. The 2nd lift of bituminous was placed
on the parking lot in 2005 and most of the trails were paved. Some of the trails south of the
playing fields were graded but not paved. These trails may be moved to provide room for
wetland mitigation in connection with the extension of Sanitary Sewer and Watermain to the
Sweet Bay Ridge development (former St. Anthony Gun Club Site).

The highway underpass in the southeast comer of the park was completed under Highway 47 last
summer. The paving season ended before all of the connections could be completed. The bridge
over County Ditch 66 was placed last fall. Construction of the trail connection to the south is
anticipated to be completed early in the 2006 construction season.

Trees were transplanted into the areas behind the curb in the summer of 2005. The next phase of
improvements for the park is extending the irrigation system to these areas.

Staff Recommendation:

Staffrecommends preparing a documentation to be submitted to the Public Works Committee
detailing the extent of work to be performed and requesting authorization to install the
improvements in 2006.

Commission Action:

Based upon discussion.

Reviewed by:
Assistant Director Public Works/Principal Engineer
Parks/Utilities Supervisor

P&R: 1/12/06

15
