CASE STUDY <br /> <br />Uptown Transit Station interior <br /> <br />transit services were concentrated, and <br />needed an improved passenger waiting <br />area. I_SA Design proposed the e,-cpansion <br />of the bridge to allow the construction of <br />passenger waiting areas on both sides and <br />add bus pullover lanes. This design did <br />not require the acquisition of property for <br />the passenger terminals. Locating the pro- <br />ject on the bridge placed it in the perfect <br />location to connect to the future busway/ <br />light-raft and trolley line. A minimum <br />amount of land was acquired to accommo- <br />date a bus transfer area, which was sited <br />adjacent tO the rail line and took advan- <br /> <br />Uptown Transit Station <br /> <br />rage of access right-of-way to minimize <br />acquisition of viable property. <br /> Uptown Transit Station has succeeded <br />in concentrating transit sen,ices, providing <br />climate controlled passenger space, and <br />investing in transit improvements that will <br />support multiple uses. All of this was <br />accomplished in a high-density area with <br />no disruption to existing businesses. <br /> <br />Summary <br />Hubbard Marketplace and Uptown Transit <br />Station both began as projects with what <br />seemed like opposing goals and extreme <br /> <br />site limitations. By taking the time to under- <br />stand the goals of all parties and absolute <br />requirements for the transit service and <br />facility, LSA Design was able to locate and <br />design projects that were embraced by ail. <br />Everyone felt that they had been heard, <br />had been involved in the decisions and <br />had been used for their expertise.
