April 1 <br />ANDOVER, Minn. (FEBRUARY 17, 2023)—The Anoka County Master Gardeners invite the <br />public to attend the 2023 Home Landscaping and Garden Fair at the Bunker Hills Activities <br />Center in Andover on Saturday, April 1 from 8:20 a.m. — 3:15 p.m. <br />Residents can get ready for spring by attending this community -based event featuring over a <br />dozen educational and hands-on yard and garden classes, workshops, vendor booths and resource <br />fair. Attendees will have the option to choose from a range of classes presented by Master <br />Gardeners, university educators, and industry professionals. Class topics this year include raised <br />bed square foot gardening, starting seeds indoors, creating pollinator corridors with native plants, <br />how to diagnose and prevent plant problems, plus many others. This year's event will also <br />include a keynote address from Brandon Miller, Assistant Professor in the Department of <br />Horticultural Science at the University of Minnesota, who will talk about "Underutilized Woody <br />Plants for Resilient Landscapes." Popular make -and -take workshops offer participants a hands- <br />on experience for an additional materials fee. This year's workshops are "Make Your Own <br />Buckthorn Walking Stick" using invasive buckthorn wood, and "Let's Make a Kokedama", a <br />decorative moss -covered planter. <br />The event is hosted by volunteers who are also certified Extension Master Gardeners in Anoka <br />County. "Our volunteers are so excited to offer this event again for community members", said <br />Lia Spaniolo, Program Coordinator for the Anoka County Extension Master Gardeners. "April is <br />the perfect month to get excited about planting in your garden and set goals for the growing <br />season. The Fair offers new ideas and researched -based practices that attendees can incorporate <br />at home, plus the overall event is so vibrant with all the garden-themed booths, you can't help <br />but get motivated after a long winter." <br />Registration is open online now through March 19 and costs $35/person for the day. The fee <br />includes access to classes, vendor fair, resource organizations, door prizes, coffee, tea, bottled <br />water & session materials. Make and take workshops are optional for an additional cost per class. <br />Optional sandwich lunch (turkey or vegetarian) for $7 includes chips, cookie and a beverage and <br />can be purchased at the time of online registration. Walk-in registrations will be accepted on the <br />day of the event for $45/person. Residents are encouraged to register early to select their top <br />choices since class size is limited.
