<br />• Realignment of CSAH 56 (Ramsey Boulevard) to be more perpendicular to CSAH 5
<br />• Converted northbound CSAH 5 bypass lane configuration to dedicated left turn and through
<br />lane
<br />• Increased centerline radius of CSAH 5 to 1,200 feet from 870 feet. This brings the curve closer
<br />to the existing speed limit of 55 mph.
<br />The estimated construction cost for the realignment improvement concept at CSAH 5/CSAH 56
<br />(Ramsey Boulevard) is $2,300,000 - $3,100,000.
<br />Various realignment alternatives were considered to balance safety improvements and property
<br />impacts. As shown in Figure 9 the larger the radii, the longer the length of improvements needed as
<br />well as more property impacts to the east. While larger radii allow vehicles to navigate a curve at a
<br />more consistent rate of speed for the corridor, a design speed can vary based on the superelevation
<br />cross slope corresponding to a specific centerline radii. A comparison of various realignment
<br />alternatives for this intersection is shown in Table 9.
