Wetland Buffer Ordinance Update
By: Chris Anderson, Zoning & Recycling Coordinator
Background:
CASE # 1
The wetland buffer ordinance was officially adopted at the October 11, 2005 City Council
meeting. It was published in the Anoka Union October 14, 2005 and will take effect November
14, 2005. City Council did request that this ordinance be reviewed after it had been in use for
about six (6) months.
Peterson Environmental is wrapping up the GIS component of the study and will begin the data
reduction component for input into the MnRAM program. This will provide the "first cut" for
identifying the Preserve and Manage 1 wetlands, which will then require field verification. If a
development application is submitted after the effective date of the ordinance and prior to the
completion of the municipal wetland management classification map, the buffer regulations will
still be implemented as City Staff will have access to the data.
Recommendation:
NA
EPB Action
This is for informational purposes only. No action is required.
EPB: 11/7/05
CASE # 2
Update on MetroEnvironment Partnership Grant Status
By: Chris Anderson, Zoning & Recycling Coordinator
Background:
On October 13, 2005, the City was notified that our application for grant monies regarding the
wetland inventory and assessment was not approved. They received nearly sixty (60) applications
requesting close to 3 million dollars, with only about $400,000.00 to allocate. While they liked
the idea of the project, they felt that other applications were more pertinent to their goal of
nonpoint source pollution reduction.
Recommendation:
