8) Senior Planner

Motion by Councilmember Anderson, seconded by Councilmember Hendriksen, to upgrade the
City Planner position to a Senior Planner position and authorize staff to initiate the recruitment
process for a Senior Planner with the advertisement indicating that work experience will be
considered in place of education.

Further discussion: Councilmember Hendriksen inquired if the title of Senior Planner will
discourage someone from applying for the position if they don't have the schooling, but have the
experience. Assistant City Administrator Moore-Sykes replied that if someone is already doing
the work they would probably consider themselves a Senior Planner. Councilmember
Hendriksen emphasized that the ad should express that experience is important. Councilmember
Zimmerman inquired if a Senior Planner is needed for that work that needs to be done. Assistant
City Administrator Moore-Sykes replied yes, explaining that they will need to back-up the
Community Development Director.

Motion carried. Voting Yes: Mayor Gamec, Councilmembers Anderson, Hendriksen, and
Connolly. Voting No: Councilmember Zimmerman.

Case #8: Report from Finance Committee

1)

Adopt Resolution Approving Proposed 2001 Payable Tax Levy and Scheduling
Budget Public Hearing Dates

Motion by Councilmember Anderson, seconded by Councilmember Hendriksen, to adopt
Resolution #00-09-235 approving the Proposed Maximum 2000, Payable 2001, Tax Levy in the
amount of $3,738,054.

Motion carried.
