CITY COUNCIL WORK SESSION CITY OF RAMSEY ANOKA COUNTY STATE OF MINNESOTA The Ramsey City Council conducted a City Council Work Session on Tuesday, January 3, 2006, at the Ramsey Fire Station Number I, 15050 Armstrong Boulevard NW, Ramsey, Minnesota. Norman Director of Public Works Dean Kapler Police Chief James Way CALL TO ORDER Mayor Gamec called the City Council Work Session to order at 5:37 p.m. APpROvEAGENDA A discussion of the Public Safety Radio Tower was added to the agenda as Case No. A. COUNCIL TOPICS FOR DISCUSSION A) Public Safety Radio Tower Police Chief Way explained it has been determined that there is room for improvement in terms of the building coverage in some parts of Anoka County with the 800 MHz digital radio system. The County is recommending using existing project funds to enhance radio coverage. To do this, the County would like to relocate the antenna that is currently located on the courthouse in the City of Anoka to Bunker Hills, and a new antenna would be constructed in Ramsey. The County is requesting a parcel of land to erect the tower in Ramsey. The best location for the antenna would be at the current City Hall site, adjacent to the substation currently located on the site. There are plans for the future Fire Station No. 2 to be built in this location. He explained changes would be required to the current ordinance in relation to tower height and design in order to construct the antenna tower. Approval of the tower would be required to go through the Planning Commission process. Councilmember Pearson asked how the tower would affect the substation.
