CITY COUNCIL WORK SESSION
Topic Report: Ramsey Lions Park Building Project
By: Heidi A. Nelson, Asst. City Administrator &
Dean Kapler, Public Works Director/Fire Chief

Background:

As Council may recall, the Lions Park Building project was bid in August of 2005. Due
to the wide ranges in the bids received, all of the bids were rejected. Since that time, staff
has been working with the architects and the Ramsey Lions to identify options to reduce
the cost of the project by simplifying the structure. In addition, the Ramsey Lions have
been working to identify additional funding for the project.

Based upon discussions with the architects, staffis recommending that the project be re-
bid with the following changest: remove the bathroom rough-in alSemate and add an
alternate that would reduce the size of the structure. The building would still
accommodate the construction of future restrooms when sewer and water become
available. The reduction in size of the structure would provide some latitude to reduce
the cost of the project if necessary based upon available funding and the outcome of the
bidding process.

A representative of the Ramsey Lions has been invited to be present for the work session
discussion.

Action Statement:

With Council direction, staff is prepared to place a case on the February 28th agenda for
authorization to bid the revised project.

CCWS: 02/21/2006
