Voting No: None. 7) Fire Officer Selections for Year 2006 Councilmember Cook explained the Fire Officers are selected on a rotating basis each year. Public Works Director Kapler explained this case specifically addresses the appointment of the paid on call officer positions. Each position carries a two year term. These terms alternate, making half the positions available for application each year. All firefighters interested must submit a letter of interest, including those who currently hold the position and are applying again. Mr. Kapler indicated he conducted interviews during the week of December 26, 2005. His recommendations have been discussed with the City Administrator, who has approved. Councilmember Cook stated the City has an exceptional Fire Department, which is in large part due to Fire Chief Kapler and his personnel that are lead members of the Fire Department. Motion by Councilmember Cook, seconded by Councilmember Jeffi'ey, to ratify the recommendation of the Personnel Committee in Case No. 7 and to accept the Fire Chief's recommendation of Fire Department Officers for 2006/2007. Councilmember Elvig expressed his appreciation to the Council for their support of the Planning Commission members. MAYOR, COLrNCIL AND STAFF INPUT Mayor Gamec inquired about the status of skating rinks in the City. Public Works Director Kapler replied the rinks have not been able to be flooded due to all the days with temperatures over fi:eezing. Staffis trying to take advantage of the cool days to get some ice down. Mayor Gamec stated he received a call of appreciation regarding the snow removal on the school trails. Public Works Director Kapler explained the two mile walking radius for both Ramsey Elementary and Pact Charter School are done under the same priority as the streets; beyond that the trails are secondary. Councilmember Pearson stated he attended a Fire Department medical training session and would like to commend the Fire Department for the time and effort they put into their training.
