Schnelle
City Administrator
City of Ramsey
15153 Nowthen Blvd. N.W.
Ramsey, Minnesota 55303

Dear Mr. Schnelle:

Reference is made to your letter of September 25, 1979, requesting that
the Anoka Comprehensive Health Department conduct an investigation of
Dan Law's property, adjacent to Ramsey Park Terrace, to determine pos-
sible health hazards that ~xlst because of a pig farming operation being
conducted at the property. On September 25, 1979, Merle Mevissen, you
and I made an inspection of this property, and the following items were
found:
1) There were somewhere between 20 and 40 pigs located in two
pens on this property. This property also contains a large
amount of solid waste in the form of lumber, paper, cans, and
bottles. One of the buildings located on the property is in
an extremely bad state of repair, as witnessed by the roof
being caved in.

There were two unprotected piles of corn located adjacent to the
hog pens.

3) There was a considerable amount of extraneous material located
around the property that is ideal for the harboring of rodents.
No rodent burrows or rodent activity was seen, but with condi-
tions found at the property, rodent infestation is a distinct
possibility. Rodent infestation could be present without the
presence of rodent burrows as there is an adequate amount of
material available for shelter.

4) There was an animal waste odor present.

It appears that this property is being operated in violation of the City
of Ramsey codes and contrary to good public health practice.

If you have any questions concerning this or if I may be of any further
service to you, please call me at 421-4760, extension 1612.

AED:pkp

Arthur E.
