WASTE MA~AGEME~IT BOARD SITIIIG TIMETABLE <br /> <br /> Oisposal Facilities <br /> <br /> November, 1980. The Waste Management Board (WMB) notifies communities in <br /> search areas for hazardous waste disposal facilities. <br /> November, 1980 - May, 1981. Public meetings will be held in each Development <br /> Region to discuss and recommend siting criteria to the WMB. <br /> May, 1981.. The WMB must propose six or more candidate sites for commercial <br /> hazardous waste disposal facilities. <br /> May, 1981 - August, 1981. Additional meetings as well as hearings will be <br /> held in the Development Regions on the proposed candidate sites. <br /> August, 1981. The WMB will select six candidate sites in six different <br /> counties--one per county. Subsequently, the Governor will appoint a Local <br /> Project Review Committee from'each affected county to act as a communication <br /> link between the affected community and the involved state agencies to relay <br /> information and local concerns. Each Local Project Review Committee must <br /> select a temporary voting member to serve on the Waste Management Board Lo <br /> represent his or her communit¥'in the siting deliberations of the WMB~' <br /> January, 1982. The WMB will present two reports to the Legislative Commission <br /> on Waste Management, after consultation with the Local Project Review Com- <br /> mittees and after a public meeting in each affected county. One report will <br /> be on mitigation of local effects of a hazardous disposal facility, and <br /> will propose ways to reduce local impacts and compensate the host communities. <br /> The other report will be on hazardous waste management, and will contain a <br /> draft hazardous waste management plan and a proposed certificate of need for <br /> one or more disposal facilities. <br /> <br />- May, 1982. The WMB will issue a certificate of need for hazardous waste <br /> disposal facilities that will specify the size and types of disposal <br /> facilities to be built at one or more of the candidate sites. <br /> <br />- September, 1982. The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency will complete <br /> environmental impact statements on disposal facilities at each of the six <br /> candidate sites. <br /> <br />- Spring, 1983. The WMB will select one or more of the sit. es for disposal <br /> facilities, after hearings in each county, discussions with affected local <br /> governments and others, and after consideration of the Pollution Control <br /> .Agency's environmental impact statements. <br /> <br /> Processing Facilities <br /> <br /> - June 1, 1981. The WMB will propose at least 9 sites to appear on a hazardous <br /> waste processing site inventory, including (1) three incineration sites, (2) <br /> three chemical processing sites, and (3) three transfer and storage sites. <br /> - November 1, 1981. The WMB will prepare a final inventory of processing sites. <br /> <br /> <br />
