,NR.B PHONE: • • STATE OF DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES Metro Region Waters, 1200 Warner Road, St. Paul, MN 296 -7523 October 17, 1980 Anoka County Municipality Attention: City Clerk RE: ANOKA COUNTY PUBLIC WATERS INVENTORY Gentlemen: This letter is to inform you of the program to classify and identify public waters within Anoka County. Legislation passed in 1979 set up an inventory procedure to identify all of the public waters in the state. The public waters inventory materials were submitted to the county on September 29, 1980 and the county now has 90 days to review these materials, conduct at least one public information meeting, and to present their recommendations to the Department of Natural Resources. The recommendations shall state with particularity the waters involved and the reasons for disagreement. The reasons for disagreement may include size determination, location, or wetland types. If the size of a wetland is disputed, please provide the size you have determined and the method used to calculate it. Also, if common or local names are known for unnamed waters, they should be provided. A list identifying the wet- land /public water name and legal description of the wetland is enclosed. Basically, the 1979 law identified public waters as type 3, 4, 5 wetlands larger than 2k acres in incorporated areas and larger than 10 acres in un- incorporated areas, and watercourses that have a drainage area of more than two square miles. Bob Hutchinson of Anoka County has been identified as the county's contact person (Anoka County Health Department, Fourth Floor Courthouse, 325 East Main Street, Anoka, Minnesota 55303, 421 -4760) and Mr. Hutchinson has in- dicated that the county will also be contacting the municipalities. To assure proper contact with each city, we would appreciate the city providing us and the county with the name of a contact person.
