Anoka, Minnesota 55303 Re: For Immediate Attention - Department of Natural Resources Public Waters Classification Dear Mayor Gamec: I am writing to advise you that the Anoka County Board of Commissioners has recently received notice from the Department of Natural Resources on preliminary now has 90days tto these Adesignationspand �report the State on any areas of disagreement. I am most concerned about this issue and want to call it to your immediate attention. Public waters are defined in general terms as lakes, wetlands, and /or water courses. Once a designation of "public waters" has been made by DNR, these areas come under the jurisdiction of regulatory authority. The designation of public waters does not change the private nature of the land surrounding the water basin. However, such a designation does mean that the Department of Natural Resources will not allow any alteration, excavation, drainage, filling, structures, water level controls, bridges, culverts, etc., etc. to be constructed in the designated area without a permit from the DNR. I need not tell you how important this issue is for the future land use of our County. Consequently, I would urge that you participate in this review in at least the following ways: 1. Attend the public informational meeting scheduled for your area on November 6, 1980 at 7:30 P.M. at the Bunker Hills Activities Center in the Bunker Hills Park. This meeting is being conducted to provide you with information concerning the program and an opportunity to obtain answers for any questions which you may have. If you cannot attend the meeting scheduled for your area, please make it a point to attend one of the other meetings listed on the attachment.
