• <br />Pursuant to due call and notice thereof, the Ramsey City Council held a <br />public hearing regarding the Housing Size Ordinance on September 16, 1980 <br />at the Ramsey Municipal Center, 15153 Nowthen Blvd. N.W., Ramsey, Minnesota 55303. <br />Members Present: Mayor Gamec <br />Councilman Sorteberg <br />Councilman Mickelson <br />Councilman Cox <br />Members Absent: Councilman Reimann <br />SPECIAL MEETING <br />City of Ramsey <br />Anoka County <br />State of Minnesota <br />Mayor Gamec called the meeting to order at 7:55 P.M. <br />Mayor Gamec said about two or three years ago, the city was told to look into <br />low and moderate housing in regards to the Comprehensive Plan. At that time, <br />the city did not consider the houses in Ramsey to be moderately priced. But <br />now those houses are considered low Eighty per -cent of the home owners <br />have been able to move out to Ramsey because of no sewer & water. Ramsey <br />has approximately 200 lots that are unbuilt. To continue servicing of these <br />lots, the city is looking at filling them up and at different financing <br />and the possibility of the city getting involved in bonding. :At.the time, <br />the city felt Ramsey was growing rapidly and it didn't need to change the <br />housing size. But then the housing took a drop from 287 homes per year to <br />86 homes per year. With the economy and housing taking a drop, there are <br />several parcels with no houses on them. There is a $20,000 deficit in the <br />Building Department and the city will have to raise taxes to make it up. <br />The P & Z Commission Had a meeting with the E.D.C. and they looked into energy <br />efficient housing. Gas costs and fuel costs have driven people from Ramsey. <br />Energy.efficient_type housing and solar underground -type housing should be <br />considered. <br />Councilman Sorteberg noted that in Anoka there are various size houses, <br />some with garages and some without garages. <br />Mr. Dennis Hanson, 15700 Dolomite <br />Mr. Hanson questioned the difference in the Rambler size. <br />Councilman Sorteberg said the city did not change the Rambler Size. It <br />was 1100 sq. ft. with garages and 960 sq. ft. without garages. <br />Mr. Hanson asked if there was a law that stated this. <br />Mayor Gamec said there was not. <br />Mr. Hanson said he built his house less than a year ago and that was the law then. <br />SPECIAL MEETING <br />September 16, 1980 <br />Page 1 <br />
