Trees were transplanted into the areas behind the curb in the summer of 2005. The next phase of
improvements for the park is extending the irrigation system to these areas.

Chairperson Johns indicated she would like to go up to 167th with the trail.

Parks/Utilities Supervisor Riverblood stated they discussed going up to 167th but not north of
there because there are a lot of other demands in other areas for trail connections.

Parks/Utilities Supervisor Riverblood reviewed the trees that were moved within the City to the
different parks.

Commissioner Shryock wondered how the tree spade affects the trees. She asked if it rains any
roots.

Parks/Utilities Supervisor Riverblood stated they have to pick the fight size tree and remove it at
certain times during the year. He showed how the tree spade works.

Parks/utilities Supervisor Riverblood reviewed the number of and kinds of trees they have
transplanted in the parks during 2005.

Parks/utilities Supervisor Riverblood stated they got a bid for burlap trees this year for Alpine
Park and each tree was $650.00 each. He noted the tree spade was well worth the money.

Parks/utilities Supervisor Riverblood reviewed the landscape plan for Elmcrest Park with the
Commission, indicating what type of trees and vegetation would go along the boulevard and
different landscaping areas.

Commissioner Shryock wondered what the status of the north entrance was.

Civil Engineer II Linton indicated the road is there and will shift to the east and be on a City
street.

Chairperson Johns noted there was talk about a bridge in the northern area of the park.

Parks/Utilities Supervisor Riverblood showed the area where the bridge will go through the
wetland on the map. He thought an arched bridge will be a nice amenity.

Parks/Utilities Supervisor Riverblood noted with all of the trees, they will need to irrigate them.
The irrigation and landscape is estimated at about $146,000, not including the landscaping
already in there and there will be about $66,000 of prep cost for phase III. He stated in the C1P
for 2006-2008 there is only $55,000 allocation per year. They will need to phase this over the
years. He thought they could do a lot of the work in-house. He indicated he would plan this out
for the Commission to review.

Park and Recreation Commission/January 12, 2006
Page 5 of 7
