AUTHORIZATION TO APPOINT A PUBLIC WORKS DIRECTOR, FIRE <br /> CHIEF AND UTILITIES SUPERVISOR <br /> <br />By: Givonna Reed, Human Resources Manager <br /> <br />Background <br /> <br />The City Council has had several discussions regarding Springsted's recommendations <br />for reorganizing the Public Works and Fire Departments. The City Council adopted <br />Springsted's recommendations at its meeting on March 14, 2006. Staff is recommending <br />that the City Council make the following appointments in order to fully implement <br />Springsted's recommendations: <br /> <br />Appoint Brian Olson as the Public Works Director effective March 15, 2006 with <br />a starting hourly wage of $44.28. Mr. Olson's probationary period will be one <br />year and all other personnel policies will apply normally. <br /> <br />Appoint Dean Kapler as the full-time regular Fire Chief effective March 15, 2006. <br />Mr. Kapler will also serve as the Superintendent of Public Works operations <br />through March 14, 2007. <br /> <br />3. Appoint John Nelson as Utilities Supervisor effective March 15, 2006 at an <br /> hourly wage of 24.80. Mr. Nelson's probationary period will be six months and <br /> all other personnel policies will apply normally. <br /> <br />Committee Action <br /> <br />Motion recommending that the City Council make the following appointments: <br /> <br />Appoint Brian Olson as the Public Works Director effective March 15, 2006 with <br />a starting hourly wage of $44.28.
