TASK FORCE BUSINESS

Case #1: Review Land Cover Inventory Maps From Anoka Conservation District

Mr. Max stated that the Conservation District is reviewing land cover over the entire County and
we need to review some particular corridors that should remain for wildlife and recreation. A lot
of those corridors will fall in areas that are around wetlands. And, wetlands are the next topic for
review and discussion by the EPTF.

Mr. Biske proceeded to review the information gathered by the Conservation District and what
has been done as far as analyzing that information.

While Mr. Biske proceeded to set up a projector, the Task Force went on to Case #2.

Case #2:

Demonstration of DNR "Restore Your Shore" cd by Councilmember Sarah
Strommen

Councilmember Strommen demonstrated the 'Restore Your Shore' cd.

Mr. Biske stated that there are cost share grants available for things like writing and promoting
environmental ordinances. Discussion ensued regarding the need for public education and
awareness and how the environmental expo, Ramsey Resident newsletter, City website, and
cable t.v. can be of help.

Consensus was that in the upcoming months, the EPTF participation in the 2004 Environmental
Expo should be a regular item on the EPTF agenda. Erika Sitz and Margaret Connolly
volunteered to work as EPTF liaison for participation in the 2004 Expo.

Mr. Biske stated that he believed Greg Thompson, Restoration Specialist for the Conservation
District, would help EPTF put together an outline for the Expo and website.

Case #1:

Resume - Review Land Cover Inventory Maps From Anoka Conservation
District

Mr. Biske reviewed the following maps: National Wetland Inventory, Soils, and Wetlands
Inventory for Ramsey. Mr. Biske noted the benefits of wetlands as follows: clean surface water,
retain groundwater in the area for eventual recharge of acquifers, and keeping flora and animals
on the wetland site, and flood control.

Case #3: Draft Scope and Purpose for Ramsey Wetland Buffer Ordinance

Consensus was that the goals of the Wetland Buffer Ordinance should include:
outreach, preservation, policy, inventory of resources, inventory of available
restoration.

education,
expertise,
