Equal Errployment Opportunity Corrmission has provided <br />the Office of Revenue Sharing '*'ith a supply of its recent handbook <br />for State and local governments entitled "Eliminating Discrimination <br />in E.mgloyment: A Compelling National Priority." The handbook has been" <br />written to help public employers understand ,,,hat is legally prohibited <br />employment discrimination, how to identify it and ~,t~at actions are <br />required to eliminate it. It provides a su,uury of basic requirements <br />under all applicable Federal laws and examples of specific ~nployment <br />practices ,,/here discrimination most frequently is found. It also includes <br />descriptions oi' recorrmended corrective actions. <br /> <br /> The Office of Revenue Sharin~ x~ll be glad to rrake single copies <br />available to recipient governments wi thcxit charge upon request to the Inter- <br />governmental Relations Divisio~ at the letterhead address. <br /> <br /> The Office also will be pleased to respond to inquiries you tray have <br />regarding voluntary aff-iL~'~utive actions ~hich your government may_~ish to <br />consider to prevent discrimination in employment or the~rovision of- <br />services. Please write in care of the letterhead address or telephone <br />(202) 634-5337. <br /> <br />Census Revenue Sharin~ Forms <br /> <br /> Governments ,,'hich report revenue sharing and other data directly <br />to the Bureau of the Census were sent the proper form in mid-Septerrber <br />on ~hich to report this infonration. My transmittal letter reminds <br />recipients also about the requirq,ment that a copy-of the report mst <br />be trade available for public inspection together with supportin~ documenta- <br />tion within 10 days after returning the form to the Census Bureau. <br />A newspaper notice advising the public of the availability of the <br />report form for inspection mJst also be ppblished promptly after the <br />forms are returned. <br /> <br /> In a rr~jority o£ States, most local goyernments ~dll receive <br />survey forms from a State or county government agency 'which collects <br />these data by arrangement with the Census Bureau. These governments <br />may receive their forms at a later date. ~st governments will be <br />asked to complete the same forms they received last year. <br /> <br /> The Census Bureau and other data collection agencies working <br />in cooperation with it may send these forms to someone other than <br />the chief executive o£ your government. Please deten-nine '~o in your <br />'~overnment has corrp]eted these forms in the past and encourage that <br />person to prepare the required report as soon as accurate figures <br />are available. It is not necessary that the report be delayed until <br />an audit is conducted so long as accurate information is reported. <br /> <br /> <br />
