59) Iguana Street south of 153rd - Driveway culvert was frozen and it washed
out the road. The c~lvert has been cleaned.
60) Bowers Drive - There is a drainage problem in this area. The water runs
to the low area and has nowhere to go. Storm sewer would be necessary to
solve this problem.
This is the problem areas that we had calls on and some that I noticed. The
spring of 1950 was extremely bad for frozen culverts because of all the rain
we had during the winter. The ditches filled with water and frozen and
didn't thaw until late in the spring.
~ere are many low lots in Ramsey that people have built walkout basements
on that do not have adequate drainage and I think this should be watched
very close in the future. Most of the basements that flooded wo~J~d not
have flooded had they not been walkouts.
We have many, many driveway culverts that are plugged and stopping drainage
but we don't have enough man power to keep up with the constant washing of
sand from the streets and driveways. We could have a three man crew working
all summer on this project just to keep them clean. Unfortunately, we can't
spend all of our time on this type of work because we also have roads and
signs and parks and numerous other jobs to do. We may have to consider con-
tracting some of this work out due to the increased work load brought on by
more parks, more roads and other duties placed on us by a growing co~mur~ty.
I will be asking for one additional man just to maintain the type of service
that we have been doing. We don't always have the drainage problems that
we had last spring but the possibility is always there and we need the man
power to handle the problems as they crop up.
We've got pretty good equipment now but will need more as the City grows and
we will have to add employees as we add equipment. I think Ramsey is a r~ice
place to live and I enjoy working for Ramsey, but I will need your assistance
in giving %he services to the residents to which they have become accustomed.
