Chairman peterson suggested that He, Administrator schnelle and City Attorney
Goodrich get together regarding the permitted uses and definitions- He said
the commission felt comfortable with the general definition of ,business
the city has.

3. H~OU~ze~s
chairman Peterson explained the City council has acted on the housing size
change and since then there has been a public outcry against it when the new
size houses were going up.
Kathy schneider noted the "split Level with a 440 Square Foot Garage
768 Square Feet" in the current ordinance was not mentioned in the motion
in which it was acted upon. She stated her only problem was that the
council did not come back to the P & Z Commission before making their final
action-
Ron West said he, Dick Carson and two or three others were at the public
hearing and council meeting on housing sizeS.
city Administrator schnelle $~id the complaint is from someone who lives in
an area of larger type houses where the smaller types are going up.
He said the income that is needed to build the type of house that is in there
now wil~ prohibit much further building-
Ben Deemer said he felt the 2%~acre lot size is what is making the houses
expensive and not the house size.
City Administrator schnelle cited the various house sizes in Anoka which
didst seem to have an affect on the more expensive, larger houses.
Ron West noted people are not moving out but are staying in the cities
where they are closer to work, shopping centers and day care centers
and they are' looking at condominiums, townhouses and lots with sewer and
water.
Kathy Schneider said the commission'S complaint was not the smaller house
size but that no garages were required- She said she would require that if
a development with garages has a few vacant lots left that houses with no
garages be prohibited from that development- she said she can see no garage
houses in a totally neW, unique development. In the past, when people built
their homes in Ramsey, they felt they were protected by the city ordinance,
but this is no longer true.
Motion by Ben Deemer and seconded by Gerald zi~erman that the original
motion from the 6/20/80 Planning & zoning Commission Meeting be referred
to the public hearing on housing sizes.
Motion carried- voting yes-Kathy schneider, Art Dun, Gerald zimmerman
and Ben Deemer. Voting no-Chairman peterson, HarrY Ellis and Ron West.
Bon West was in favor of the current ordinance.
chairman peters0n and Harry Ellis felt the ordinance should not have been
changed in the first place.
p & Z Regular Meeting Page 4 9/2/80
