TO: City Administrator

FROM: Building Official

RE: Permit Fees

DATE: January 14, 1981

As noted in a previous report, I recently attended a meeting with several
of the other building officials from the Northern metropolitan area to re-
view what the various communities charge for permits as well as what per-
mits they issue. The attached chart indicates what these charges and per-
mits are. Please note that these are the 1980 rates and some of the com-
munities are proposing increases.

Also please note that in the last column, I have proposed some changes be-
cause I don't feel our costs are being adequately covered by our current
fees.

The only additional permit I would recommend is for heating which would
assist us in the licensing of heating contractors.

I do not feel a fee for a certificate of occupancy is justified inasmuch
as it is a local requirement and not a code requirement. The only other
permit that may warrant consideration would be for a well. However, we
would not be making au extra inspection so it is not realistic.

I will be available should you decide to bring this item to the City Council
for their consideration.
