ALBERT H. QUIE
GOVERNOR

~TATE OF MINNESOTA

ST. PAUL

January 3% 1981

Dear Mayor:

The State of Minnesota will hold its annual Conference on
Natural Disasters on Friday~ March 6~ 1981 at the Ramada
Inn~ 1870 Old Hudson Road~ St. Paul, Minnesota 55119~ as
a part of the State's Preparedness Program. Please consider
this an invitation to you~ members of your City Council~
and your City Civil Defense Director to attend.
Up to now, the winter of 1980-1981 has been mild with very
little snow accumulation. Historically~ heavy precipitation
occurs in the latter part of February and March which could
affect this spring's flood potential. In addttion~ sections
of the State are very dry and need additional precipitation.
It is~ therefore~ important to be concerned about the spring
weather forecasts. Mr. John Graff~ Meteorologist in Charge
of the National Weather Service Forecast Office in Minneapolis
will present the weather outlook for 1981 at the Conference.
Major emphasis of the Conference will be the changes in
regulations affecting assistance for disaster recovery.
In addition~ the role of hazard mitigation in preventing
or reducing the effects of disasters will be discussed.
If your schedule will permit~ I encourage you to attend.
The information that will be provided at this Conference
will be most important to you.

With best personal regards~ I am

Sincerely yourss ~

ALBERT H. QUIE
GOVERNOR

AN EQUAL OPPORTUNI~EMPLOYER
