c[ <br /> <br /> Introduction of an Ordinance <br />Amending Section 2.03, Boards and Commissions <br /> <br />By: Givonna Reed, Human Resources Manager <br /> <br />Background <br /> <br />At the March 14, 2006 City Council meeting, the City Council voted to amend the Policy <br />for Appointing Board and Commission Members by eliminating term limits. <br />Commissioners are currently allowed to serve a partial term (two years or less) and two <br />consecutive four-year terms. Approval of this ordinance will allow commissioners to <br />serve four-year terms indefinitely, except that the City Council may decide not to <br />reappoint a board or commission member after his/her term has expired. <br /> <br />The proposed amendment is as follows: <br /> <br />Terms <br /> <br />Ind ............... ~ ......j ........................................ <br /> <br />tc,,~_~. Board and Commission members shall serve four-year terms. There <br />will be no limit to the number of terms that can be served. <br /> <br />Staff Recommendation <br /> <br />Staff recommends that the City Council introduce an ordinance to amend Chapter 2.03 of <br />the City Code, titled "Boards and Commissions" by amending Section 2.03.02, subd. 6, <br />"Term Limits" to "Terms". <br /> <br />PC: March 28, 2006 <br /> <br />-379- <br /> <br /> <br />
