I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I

reasonable control on it; Anoka has raped this comunity for
years taking the revenues from that landfill for their General
Fund and the people blaming this Council should take their
picket signs to the City of Anoka City Hall. From there , you
should go to Metro Waste Control Commission because the louder
you holler out here the happier they are. It is time the
citizens get concerned and do something beyond blaming your
Planning Commission and Council. People should remember who
they voted for in the last election because down at that State
Capitol there ar? people creating Jobs for themselves; ten years
ago they were paid $8400/year and now they are making over
$20,000 plus their travel expenses; California has twenty times
our population and we have just as many legislators as California.
Take a look at the people you elect for office and maybe we can
get some accountable legislation and avoid the problems you are
seeing tonight.
Mr. Ernie Larson - I am shocked and dismayed that one of the
residents would stand up here and literally run down people
that are elected to office, knowing full well that many of you
work many hours beyond what you are compensated for. I don't
because I don't make $20,000 and they tell me it doesn't take
any brains to be a legislator -- you just have to win an election.
But, I am going to say this -- I have heard at least six times
tonight that Ramsey City Council has never had a chance for input
into any decision concerning permitting or anything else. You
got that chance, it's here, it's in front of you. I read the
paper, you hold the trump card it says. Now, what are you going
to do with it? I think the paper also says that Anoka will be
richly compensated for it's investment in the landfill property.
I hope that Ramsey is justly compensated also, if this comes to
pass, because I think ~200,000, $500,000, $15,000,000 is peanuts
if that ground water is contaminated and we look at 20 years or
50 years of pumping that. I think you'll be d~mn glad that there
is a PCA, you'll be glad that there is a Super Fund and I think
you should be glad that there is a legislature.
Chairman Peterson noted for the record, receiving letters from
Barbara J. DeNio, Larry Phillips, three of the Austin children
at 6738 153rd Lane, Kay Cowman, August Peltzer, Jr., G. Steiner.
Douglas Fountain - 15255 Garnet Street - Why are the odor probl-~
becoming increasingly obnoxious over the last three years if
the daily 6" coverage over the trash is supposed to eliminate
them?

Mr. Cook - Over the last couple of years, there have been
increased volumes of waste; decomposition is accelerating.
Currently, there are some repairs being made to the gas collection
system; I think that the gas collection system and the control
of odors is in need of expanding at this time and will be part
of these expansion plans.
Mr. Fountain - You have made a statement that you are totally
passive in land useage. I have been in my location for seven
years and during those 7 years, come the first snow of winter
and until the first of April, I have been feeding pheasants in
my back yard. Will I have that wildlife visible in my yard
if you expand to the North?
Counci/P & Z
Public Hearing
