To:

~ro~:

July 19, 1984

Richard schne!le, City Administrator
Ramsey City Council
Ramsey Planning and Zoning commission

Barbara Austin
673B !53rd Lane NW
Ramsey, MN 55303

Re: Expansion of the landfill

I am very disappointed in the Ramsey !lanning and Zoning
Commission for NOT denying the permit for expansion of
the landfill by Waste Management. I dc want to thank
Terry Hendriksen, Lee Johnson and Charles LaDue for the
motion made to deny the permit. Thank you and do it again.
is NO MORL
You have h__Ad from the people and consensus
DUMP. Open your eyes and ears and nose. This dump has
to close in 85. Give us something to look forward to in
life. Don't deny us the right to life, liberty, and
the pursuit of happiness.
I would like to know why Waste ManaEement purchased the
~ -~ has ~n approved~ isn't
north 80 acres before the ~.c ± . ~-
that ';' patting the cart before the horses Or does Waste
Mgmt. know something in advance that we don't know? What
will happen to that beautiful 80 acres if and when the
permit is denied?
The first biggest mistake Ramsey has ever made was making
this area surrounding the dump a residential area and the
second biggest mistake would be to expand it and 2 wrongs
don't make a right~!!!!!!!!
I do have one question that needs clarification - regarding
the !eachate pool. I gather this will not be fresh water,
if you know what I mean, well, besides the smell of that
and water infiltration to our wells (don't tell me no it
won't happen) how about the popular Minnesota problem of
mosquitos! Are they going to be ccntrolled? The flies are
bad enough we don't need more mosquitos.
~ also have a few words regarding the depreciation of our
homes. I agree with the appraiser when he said the homes
will depreciate 5-10% (probably per year) but that's not
as important as what he said about "HE WOULDN'T WANT TO
LIVE THERE HIMSELF". What value does that have? To me 100%.
If you don't like the area, you won't buy the house -
that's 100% loss right there. We looked into selling but
found we couldn't afford a new mortgage so we are stuck.
Make our living here bearable and close the dump.
