PAGE 3 <br />PUBLIC HEARING <br />MAY 29, 1979 <br />STREET IMPROVEMENT <br /> <br />Mayo~ Cameo stated no, that the people would have to pay the cost themselves. <br />The City designates streets in the City as major thoroughfares that receive the <br />State aid and these streets would not qualify as such. <br />M~. McCarty. ~sked who determines Whether he ~eeds a culvert, how much do they cost, <br />and what is the cost of maintenance of the street after it is improved.? <br />Mayor Gamec responded that the cost of maintaining blacktop is generally less than <br />dirt or gravel and culverts are put in only when needed and at the property owners <br />expense.. <br />A resident at 16260 Jaspar, Said he blacktopped his driveway, to the street'and has <br />a culvert and is wondering if they will dig it up and clean it oP what? <br />Engineer ~atikka said it would pPo~ably be left the way it is. <br />Mr. Scannel .said he has-two culverts, one in the street and one in his driveway <br />and they are both undepground, he added that'they should be cleaned.ou~. <br />Engineer I~atikka replied this is something they are taking a look at. <br />ph~. Broderlck said he is directly across from M~. Jackson and asked where <br /> 163rd is going to stop being paved. <br /> <br />Engineer Raatlkka replied, right pas~ the inte~sectlon. <br /> Les Martens, 161st Lane asked about the quality of the job', does this go to <br /> the lowest bidder and. is there any guarantee. <br /> Mayor Ga~ec explained that it does go to the lowest 51dde~ hut it has to be <br /> to City standards and a performance bond guaranteeing the quality'~f' the road fo~'a <br /> one-year period, is provided to the City. <br /> <br /> M~. Martens asked about completion time. <br /> Eng'ineer Raatikka said it would be completed sometime this Fall. _ <br /> A man in the audience asked about posting of s~gns .to keep speedlng down. <br /> Mayor Gamec said what the City is doing is telling people to'~ollce their ow~ <br /> area and take names down and the City will send but letters infoz~i~g <br /> of the complaint wlthou%'involvlng the'complainant~ <br /> Mx,. Go~don Lov~ick aske~if they ever g~t the park on 161st and Jaspa~ would <br /> there be a stop sign there? <br /> Mayor Gamec stated that the City is making a study on where s.lgns are needed. <br /> Vlc~or McClaron asked rather than stop signs could they have dips in the road. <br /> <br />Mayor Gamec said they are'a .maintenance problem. <br /> <br /> <br />
