YOU NEED TO ACT NOW

-3-

1. It is extremely important for city officials, particularly elected officials, to
lev limit - vigorously, unequiv~cably and soon. Call or
rotest this proposed Y ~ dersh~n Rep. Harry Sieben
Prite the Governor, your legislators, and the ,.~ .. [Jade~,. Tell them ~ou
~peaker of the House; Sen. ~g? Moe - S~nate Majority L I
oppose the Governor's levy l~mlt proposam. ·

2. Take the time to project the effect of the proposals on your city and understand
the full impact. Suggestions on how to do this are enclosed.

CONCLUSION
No one wants to be blamed for property tax increases, and the legislature must have
support from you if they are to reject the Governor's proposal. Legislators must be
reminded that local officials are accountable to voters, too, and will use the power
responsibly. Cities have not been united,,on the issue of LGA cutbacks and
shifts and it has severely hampered our ~lobbying effort. (It still looks like
there will be an LGA freeze and payment shifts.)? We must unite and act now on this
issue or we run the risk of taking a giant step backward on the question of local
financial stability. ~
Without your help cities may end the legislativm session as losers in two ways - local
government aids frozen and payments delayed; an~ no power to make up for cutbacks in
state and federal programs by raising revenue lo~ally.

DS:PF:rn~n
Enc.
