FUrther, I am I ~'~ In view of all I have read about this issue, it appears to me that the~e are _ very few checks and balances watching over the management of this very large employee pension fund. I Consequently, I feel that the following should be accomplished as soon as I ~'. possible to, correct a possible serious situation: a) Recommend that the present interim Director be relieved of his duties and a new intorim Director be appointed until a permanent Director can be I .M hired after going through the proper hiring process. I also strongly urge that a reputable Executive Search consultant be engaged to assist in the hiring of the new Director for PERA. Further, I do not believe that the present m Board members should have any input into the hiring of a new interim Director or the new permanent Director until their alleged problems are resolved. b) Recommend that the House Subcommittee on Pensions and Investments m and the Senate Governmental Operations Committee joint hearings to hold investigate the alleged irregularities and initiate In~oper legislation so that n m ~ this situation does not reoccur. c) Recommend that the Attorney oeneral's~ Office investigate the alleged violation of the PERA Boa~l members in the conducting of their official mduties. d) Recommend that the Legislative Auditor audit the PERA funds for many irregularities.
