OMENKL
Real People. Real Solutions.
MEMORANDUM
7533 Su nwood Drive NW
Suite 206
Ramsey, MN 55303-5119
Date: May 25, 2023
To: Bruce Westby, P.E., City Engineer / Director of Public Works
From: Kevin Kielb, P.E., Principal Engineer
Subject: Bid Results and Recommendation
Lift Station #10 Improvements
City Project No: 23-11
PIS: (763) 433-2.851
Fax: (763) 427-0833
Bolton-Menk.com
Two bids were received for the Lift Station # 10 Improvements project (City Project #23-11) . The bids
were publicly read aloud at 10:00 A.M. on May 25, 2023. The bids were then reviewed, tabulated and the
results are summarized below:
CONTRACTOR
TOTAL BID
Meyer Contracting Inc.
$194611454.93
Geislinger & Sons
$115471105.00
The engineer's estimate for the project was $1,210,885.00.
A review of the bids and discussions with the low bidder indicate that continuing price inflation is being
seen for concrete, large diameter PVC pipe, pumps, and electrical equipment. When compared to bids
received last year for the Lift Station No. 9 improvements, prices for the lift station and valve vault
increased by 62%, or approximately $248,000.00. We had projected a 20% increase in our engineer's
estimate for this item. This accounted for the ma j ority of difference between the engineer's estimate and
the low bid. Meyer Contracting indicated that trucking costs also factored into the higher bids received,
with those cost increases being seen across most of the bid items.
While there is the option of re -bidding the project, there is the potential of seeing continual inflation
which would then result in receiving higher bid prices.
If the City of Ramsey decides to award the project to the low bidder, we recommend awarding the
contract to Meyer Contracting, Inc. in the amount of $1,461,454.93.
If you have any questions, please contact me at (651) 968-7760.
Bolton & Menk is an equal opportunity employer.
