DEPAR]'MENT

DATE

TO

FROM

of Natural Resources
b~TRO REGION WATERS

April 19, 1988

City of Ramsey WSR file

John L. Stine ~.~
Area Hydrologist

STATE OF MINNESOTA

O ice Memoranctum

PHONE

SUBJECT

296-7523

VOLD VARIANCE A~ STAIRWAY ONSITE INSPECTION 4/19/88

I made a field inspection with Anne Norris, City of Ramsey, of the
Vold property at 5355 - 165th Lane N.W. which is on the Rum River.
Ken and Sandy Void would like to construct a stairway and landing
system do~m their bank which basically follows the existing stairway
system which has been in place for several years. The existing
stair~cay is an in-ground stairway and the railroad tie steps are
deteriorating. They would like to construct an above-grade stairway
system in a do~stream directiom to hit a lower landing location. I
thought that was reasonable and Mr. Vold will prepare plans in that
regard.

They had also discussed making an addition to their house for a
three level deck, the highest level being near the eave. The
purpose for this three level deck is to expand the living area of
their house and to gain a view of the river. ! climbed up onto the
roof with Mr. Vold to see how this would appear as viewed from the
river. The structure would be basically totally screened in an
upstream and do%~stream direction with only a small area of river
being visible through the pine trees directly in front of the
structure. Also, the addition would be no closer to :he river than
the existing structure on the property.

L57:!kr

cc: Anne Norris, City of Ramsey/
Bill Zachmann, Cenural Waters

/I
