Councilmember Strommen introduced the following resolution and moved for its adoption: <br /> <br />RESOLUTION #06-03-095 <br /> <br />RESOLUTION ESTABLISHING AN ABSENTEE BALLOT BOARD IN THE CITY OF <br />RAMSEY <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the City of Ramsey receives hundreds of absentee ballots for each election; <br />and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, on election day, the election judges must make time to accept or reject the <br />ballots according to the criteria laid out by the State of Minnesota; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, there are numerous duties for the election judges on election day and <br />accepting and tallying absentee ballots add to the time spent in the polling place, which also <br />increases their wage; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, it is possible to establish an Absentee Ballot Board to take care of all the <br />absentee ballots prior to the end of Election Day as per Minnesota Statutes 203B.13, thereby <br />easing some of the responsibilities of the Election Judges on Election Day; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Anoka County Elections is wiling to help facilitate the Absentee Ballot <br />Board for the State elections, which means more experienced workers can supervise <br />accepting/rejecting of the absentee ballots; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, in conversations with Anoka County Elections, it appears that the City <br />Clerk or his/her designee, could possibly be the only staff needed for the count; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, in order to make this process successful, the County needs 100% <br />consensus from each city/town/school board. <br /> <br />NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />RAMSEY, ANOKA COUNTY, STATE OF MINNESOTA, as follows: <br /> <br />1) <br /> <br />That the Ramsey City Council hereby adopts this resolution authorizing and <br />establishing an Absentee Ballot Board for the City of Ramsey. <br /> <br />2) That the City Clerk or his/her designee is authorized to serve on the Board. <br /> <br />3) <br /> <br />That if it is determined that more than one person is needed to serve on the Board, the <br />City Clerk is authorized to employ the suitable number of election judges or staff <br />persons who have been trained as election judges. <br /> <br />The motion for the adoption of the foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Councilmember <br />Jeffrey, and upon vote being taken thereon, the following voted in favor thereofi <br /> <br />Resolution #06-03-095 <br />Page 1 of 2 <br /> <br /> <br />
