Council. Mr. Redmond provided an overview of the following three primary work efforts <br />proposed by BKV Group: <br /> · Preliminary audit of existing building conditions <br /> · Temporary re-use concept options <br /> · Site assessment and concept plan <br /> <br />Councilmember Jeffrey questioned what additional dollar amount is proposed for the expansion <br />of the contract. <br /> <br />Assistant City Administrator Nelson replied BKV Group has proposed an additional $4,100 for <br />the additional services. <br /> <br />Councilmember Strommen arrived at 6:11 p.m. <br /> <br />Councilmembers expressed their concerns with viability of the building, and noted the need for a <br />study to be completed in order to make an informed decision. <br /> <br />Fire Chief Kapler indicated Dave Lewandowski is a member of the Public Safety Board and <br />Ramsey Firefighter. Mr. Lewandowski expressed concerns at the Public Safety Board meeting <br />in January, and the two council members that sit on the Board asked him to attend this work <br />session. <br /> <br />Mr. Lewandowski provided a review of the following concerns of the firefighters with the <br />current fire station: <br /> · The Fire Department has outgrown the building <br /> · Inadequate space for the trucks and the firefighters to get gear <br /> · Difficulty getting the ladder truck in and out of the building <br /> · The floor is beginning to fall apart <br /> · Safety concerns for the firefighters <br /> <br />Councilmember Jeffrey suggested the BKV study include a review of the possibility of the <br />firefighters putting on fire gear in the internal hall during the interim period that the existing <br />building is utilized. He stressed that safety is first when considering reprogramming space. <br /> <br />Mayor Gamec noted the importance of the Fire Department's response time, which is affected by <br />the inadequacy of the building. <br /> <br />The consensus of the Council was to direct staff to proceed with including the revision to the <br />BKV Group study on the agenda of the City Council meeting following the work session. <br /> <br />City Administrator Norman indicated when the study comes back there will be a need to analyze <br />the entire financial picture. <br /> <br />Mr. Lewandowksi stated he understands the City has financial commitments; however, he would <br />like consideration of whether there is a win/win situation where the building of the Fire Station <br />could be expedited based upon the needs.
