CC Regular Session Meeting Date: 07/ 11 /2023 Primary Strategic Plan Initiative: Strive for high organizational morale and employee retention Information Title: Authorization to Hire a City Planner Backf lling a Vacant Position Purpose/Background: The purpose of this case is to authorize hiring a City Planner in the Community Development Department. In May, the City Planner resigned, which created a vacancy in the Community Development Department. The purpose of this position is to perform professional tasks related to municipal planning, including current and long-range planning, implementation of the City of Ramsey Comprehensive Plan, as well as administration of zoning and subdivision regulations. The position reports to the Planning Manager. Following the application period, staff conducted 7 first interviews and three second interviews. The interview panel included senior staff in Community Development. Based on a written practical exam and other qualifications, Mr. Adam Martin was selected as the top candidate. Staff advanced him to the background process which includes the following pre -employment checks: professional reference check, employment verification, driving record check and a drug screen. Mr. Adam Martin has successfully passed the City's background process. Funding Source: The funding for back -filling this position is included in the 2023 budget. Recommendation: Staff recommends hiring Mr. Adam Martin as a City Planner, effective on or near July 26, 2023 at $38.096 per hour, which is Step 1 of the 2023 City Planner wage scale.
