FC CASE# <br /> <br />AUTHORIZATION TO CHANGE PUBLIC WORKS DIRECTOR/FIRE CHIEF <br />FROM GENERAL PERA TO POLICE/FIRE PERA <br /> By: James E. Norman, City Administrator <br /> <br />Background: <br /> <br />The Public Works Director/Fire Chief has requested to be changed from the general <br />PERA to Police/Fire PERA. Staff has contacted PERA and the switch can be made with <br />Council passing a resolution acknowledging the change. <br /> <br />Financial Impact: <br /> <br />Under the 2000 salary structure, the City will pay 5.18% of Mr. Kapler's salary to PERA, <br />along with 6.2% to Social Security, totaling 11.38% or $7,089.28. If the switch were <br />made to Police/Fire PERA, the City would pay 9.3% to PERA and nothing to Social <br />Security, totaling 9.3% or $5,793.53 ($1,295.75 less). Mr. Kapler's contribution to <br />PERA will increase from 4.75% to 6.2%. <br /> <br />Staff Recommendation: <br /> <br />Staff recommends approving the attached resolution authorizing the transfer of Mr. <br />Kapler fi'om general PERA to the Police/Fire PERA effective January 1, 2000. <br /> <br />Committee Action: <br /> <br />Motion to recommend Council adopt Resolution #99-12-XXX authorizing the transfer of <br />Mt'.
