Park and Recreation Commission
Meeting Date: 05/ 11 /2023
By: Mark Riverblood, Engineering/Public Works
Information
Title:
Playground Replacement Policy - Considerations for Alpine Park
5. 1.
Purpose/Background:
Late in 2021, City Council approved the Playground Replacement Policy which informs the city on which
playgrounds are to be replaced and when. In 2022, the city removed two small play structures that did not merit
replacement, and refurbished the playgrounds at both Peltzer and Rabbit Parks pursuant to the policy and plan.
The next candidate for replacement is Alpine Park and the subject of this case.
Notification:
Notifications are not required for this proposed project, and as Alpine Park is considered a community park
(versus a neighborhood park), a mailer seeking comment on the playground's proposed replacement is probably
not needed, as the majority of people using the playground annually are not likely to be from the adjoining areas.
Observations/Alternatives:
There are many different opportunities to refurbish this area of Alpine Park at the same time the primary play
structure would be replaced. Staff will review these options with the Commission on site.
Funding Source:
Pursuant to the Playground Replacement Policy, funding for the playground area refurbishment would be
primarily from the Lawful Gambling Fund.
Recommendation:
Staff recommends a discussion on the wide range of options on how to proceed with the Alpine Park playground
replacment.
Action:
Consensus direction on the next steps and timeline.
Playground Replacement Policy
2005 playground completion
Playground Finder Map
Attachments
Form Review
Inbox Reviewed By Date
Bruce Westby Bruce Westby 05/04/2023 03:44 PM
Brian Hagen Brian Hagen 05/04/2023 03:54 PM
Form Started By: Mark Riverblood Started On: 05/02/2023 10:59 AM
Final Approval Date: 05/04/2023
