Indicated elevations may-bc base -el <br />4 on United States Geological Survey data. <br />5 (D) Tree preservation barriers protection measures. <br />6 {1) All tree protection areas arc recommended to bc designated as such with "Tree Save Arco" <br />7 -s+gns posted in addition to thc required protective fencing. Signs requesting pub contractor <br />8 cooperation and--eompliance with tree protection standards arc recommended for site <br />9 entrances. <br />10 (1) Before any construction or grading takes place, snow fencing (polyethylene laminate safety <br />11 netting) or erosion control fencing shall be placed at the dripline of significant trees around <br />12 thc borders of woodlots at the driplinc of large trccs to be preserved. Sgns shall be placed <br />13 ale-eg this fence line prohibiting grading beyond' the fence line: <br />14 {3) These fences will be -orange polyethylene laminar safety fencing or of woven polyethylene <br />15 fabric -(silt fencing). <br />16 k4) Passive forms of tree protection maybe utilized to delineate tree save areas outside of the <br />17 MUSA line -with approval of thc city. They-c areas must be—eomple el-y surrounded with <br />18 eontinuous rope or flagging (heavy mil minimum four inches wide). "Keep Out" or "Tree <br />19 Save" signagc must aeeompany all passive trcc protection methods. <br />20 (2) No construction shall begin until this work has been completed, inspected, and accepted by <br />21 the city. —The tree protection measures shall not be removed until the land disturbance and <br />22 construction activities are complete. <br />23 (3) Silt barriers or similarly effective erosion control barriers shall be required in any area where <br />24 erosion or siltation may cause damage to protected trees. <br />25 {7) All protective tree fencing, staking or continuous ribbon and all erosion control barriers must <br />26 be installe-d prior to and maintained througheet thc lan sturbanec and construction <br />27 p css, and should not bc removed until acceptable vegetation is established. <br />28 {-c) Critical root zonc. The root system within the driplinc is gcncrally-eonsidcrcd to bc thc critical rem <br />29 zonc. To protect these critical root zones, a tree protection arca shall be -established around each <br />30 trcc or group of trccs to bc rctaine4 <br />31 {1) The trcc protection arca shall include no Tess than the4otal arca beneath the trcc canopy as <br />32 defined by thc dripline-of the tree or group of trees collectively. <br />33 (4) Wherein authorized excavations it becomes necessary to expose or cut roots more than one <br />34 inch in diameter, it shall be the duty of the contractor to protect such root under advice from <br />35 the city. <br />36 (5) All open trenching is prohibited. Utility installation within the dripline of protected trees, <br />37 during construction or thereafter, can only occur using trenchless methods. <br />38 (6) The mowing, clearing, and grubbing of brush located within or under the dripline of protected <br />39 trees may be allowed, provided such mowing, clearing, or grubbing is accomplished by hand <br />40 or by mowers. The use of heavy equipment for this purpose shall not be allowed. <br />41 (E) Removal threshold. <br />42 (1) Within residential developments, at least no more than 40-60 percent of the inches of existing <br />43 significant tree DBH shall be fctaine-d-on site removed. <br />44 (2) Within business and employment developments, at least no more than 30-70 percent of the <br />45 inches of existing significant tree DBH shall be fctained-on site removed. <br />46 (3) Significant trees removed for water quality treatment ponds, public trails and sidewalks, and <br />47 arterial and collector streets as defined herein, or that are considered invasive species, are <br />48 considered exempt from the removal threshold calculation. <br />Page 48 of 160 <br />
