Councilmember introduced the following resolution and moved for its adoption: <br />RESOLUTION #23-204 <br />RESOLUTION FOR COUNTING WRITE-IN VOTES FOR LOCAL ELECTIVE OFFICE <br />WHEREAS, Minnesota Statute 204B.09, subdivision 3 allows for the governing body of <br />a statutory or home rule charter city to adopt a resolution governing the counting of write-in votes <br />for local elective office. <br />WHEREAS, the current write-in vote counting process is overly time consuming and <br />unnecessary. Counting only registered write-in candidates aligns the write-in recording process <br />with Federal, State and County offices. <br />NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />RAMSEY, ANOKA COUNTY, STATE OF MINNESOTA, as follows: <br />1) That the City of Ramsey hereby requires candidates for city office to file a written request <br />with the chief election official no later than the seventh day before the city election if the <br />candidate wants to have the candidate's write-in votes individually recorded. <br />The motion for the adoption of the foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Councilmember , <br />and upon vote being taken thereon, the following voted in favor thereof: <br />and the following voted against the same: <br />and the following abstained: <br />and the following were absent: <br />Whereupon said resolution was declared duly passed and adopted by the Ramsey City Council this <br />the 12th day of September, 2023. <br />Mayor <br />ATTEST: <br />
