Councilmember introduced the following resolution and moved for its adoption: <br />RESOLUTION #23-208 <br />RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING STAFF TO APPLY FOR RELEAF <br />COMMUNITY FORESTRY GRANT FUNDS FOR EAB MANAGEMENT, <br />ONGOING MAINTENANCE, AND TO PURCHASE AND INSTALL TREES <br />WITHIN BOULEVARDS AND PARKS <br />WHEREAS, the number of Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) infested trees in Ramsey is <br />beginning to grow exponentially; and <br />WHEREAS, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has <br />announced it has approximately $6.4 million available through the ReLeaf Community <br />Forestry Grant program; and <br />WHEREAS, grant funds can be used to reimburse certain eligible forestry <br />expenses, such as Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) management and maintaining and increasing <br />canopy cover; and <br />WHEREAS, identifying and implementing operational efficiencies, cost savings <br />and additional funding sources is one of the strategies within the 2023 Strategic Plan; and <br />WHEREAS, a healthy community forest contributes to a greater quality of life for <br />the community; and <br />WHEREAS, species diversification creates a more sustainable community forest <br />and should provide greater resistance from future disease and/or pest outbreaks; and <br />WHEREAS, the deadline for submitting applications is September 18, 2023. <br />NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY <br />OF RAMSEY, ANOKA COUNTY, STATE OF MINNESOTA, as follows: <br />1) That the Ramsey City Council hereby authorizes Staff to apply for ReLeaf <br />Community Forestry Grant funds to assist with EAB management activities and for <br />the purchase and installation of new trees. <br />The motion for the adoption of the foregoing resolution was duly seconded by <br />Councilmember , and upon vote being taken thereon, the following voted in <br />favor thereof: <br />and the following voted against the same: <br />and the following abstained: <br />
