Coundlmembr~ [~eL.uca introduced the following resolution and moved for its adoption: <br /> <br />RESOLUTION #89-04-79 <br /> <br />RESOLUTI©N PROCLAIMING APRIL 24-30, 1989 AS "DISABILITY AWARENESS <br />WEEK" AND MAY 7, 1989 AS "NATIONAL BARRIER AWARENESS DAY" <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, more than 37 million citizens (over 600,000 in the State of <br />Minnesota) have physical or mental impairments which can prevent their full participation in <br />communhy ~m'r! r~tional life; and <br /> <br /> W~-tEREAS, the Minnesota State Legislature and Governor Perpich proclaimed <br />April 24-3O, 1989 as "Disability Awareness Week" and President Bush proclaimed May 7, <br />1989 as "N~tion~d Barrier Awareness Day" and they urged increased public awareness of the <br />capabilities ~nd ~.,.ccomplishrnents of America's 37 million persons with disabilities; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Anoka County Board of Commissioners adopted Resolution #89- <br />29 on Apri! 18, 1989 proclaiming "Disability Awareness Week" and "National Barrier <br />Awareness Day" h~ support of and in conjunction with the state and national proclamations; <br /> <br /> WI, iEREAS, communities are where disabled and non-disabled people live, <br />work, and in!croci and where the greatest barriers to full participation of disabled persons are <br />found, and w[mre opportunities for constructive change must be pursued. <br /> <br />NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />RAMSEY~ ANOKA COUNTY, STATE OF MINNESOTA, as follows: <br /> <br /> i ) That the Ramsey City Council hereby proclaims April 24-30, 1989 as <br />"Disability Awareu~.;ss Week" in Anoka County and May 7, 1989 as "National Barrier Awareness <br />Day". <br /> <br />The motion for lhu adoption of the foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Councilmember <br />Peterson and upon vote being taken thereon, the following voted in favor thereof: <br /> <br />Mayor F~cimarln <br />Cour~cilmomber DeLuca <br />Cou~cih'~ember Peterson <br />Councilmamber Cich <br />Cod~lcilr~iO, nlloer Pearson <br /> <br />and the fol!owin(.! voted against the same: <br /> <br />NorlP. <br /> <br />and the fol!owi~kq <br /> <br />Nor~e. <br /> <br /> <br />
