Councilmr.,rnbr~r Poarson introduced the following resolution and moved for its adoption: <br /> <br />RESOLUTION #89-08-216 <br /> <br />RESOLUTION ¢'ROCLAIMING THE MONTH OF SEPTEMBER AS GREATER ANOKA <br />COUNTY I-~ur~ANE SOCIETY MONTH <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Greater Anoka County Humane Society was established ten years <br />ago using w)hlld¢,~?rs' homes to provide shelter to a small number of stray animals; and <br /> <br /> WI ;EREAS, two years ago the Humane Society built a shelter to meet the growing <br />needs for their s,,,,¢vices; and <br /> <br /> WtiEREAS, now, the Humane Society, utilizing a network of over 100 <br />volunteers, om'os ior an average of up to 150 animals per day with over 50 percent per month <br />being adopted out io new homes; and <br /> <br /> Wt-~EREAS, as the demand for services continues to grow the shelter needs to <br />build addiiionai t~oiding pens and exercise areas for the animals; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, it is a primary goal of the Humane Society to increase public <br />awarenes.'; in it~(; :-;chools and the community to the importance of proper care for animals; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, in an effort to raise funds for the building additions and the public <br />outreach, th~; Humane Society is hosting a 5K Walk/Run/Roll For Homeless Animals on <br />Saturday, Seph;mher 23, 1989 at Bunker Hills Regional Park; and <br /> <br /> WtiEREAS, the Anoka County Board of Commissioners supports the Humane <br />Society's goals and fundraising efforts and has adopted Resolution #89-87 proclaiming the <br />month of Sei)~o~nber as Greater Anoka County Humane Society Month; and <br /> <br /> Wi-;EREAS, the Ramsey City Council supports the Humane Society's goals and <br />fundraisinH eiforts because they will result in better care for animals. <br /> <br />NOW THER~.:!FOi':IE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CiTY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />RAMSEY, ^NOK^ COUNTY, S"I"ATE OF MINNESOTA, as follows: <br /> <br /> i) That the Ramsey City Council proclaims the month of September as <br />Greater Anoka County Humane Society Month throughout the City and encourages increased <br />public awarono:~:; of the services provided by the non-profit organization. <br /> <br /> 2) That the Ramsey City Council encourages people to participate in the 5K <br />Walk/Run/Roll for Homeless Animals by entering the race or by contributing pledges in order <br />to help the Fhm~ano Sociely provide the proper care for abandoned and stray animals in our City. <br /> <br /> <br />
