Councilmr}mb(,r Pearsorl introduced the following resolution and moved for its adoption: RESOLUTION #89-11-300 RESOLUTION ~'ROCLAIMING NOVEMBER TO BE EPILEPSY MONTH IN THE CITY OF RAMSE¥ Wi'IEREAS, there are more than I00,000 Minnesotans with some form of epilepsy, whicl~ i:~, r~ot a disease but a disorder of the central nervous system; and WiIEREAS, these Minnesotans are a significant portion of some 2,000,000 Amorican~; ~r,.)rn ti~rou.(jhout the country who have epilepsy; and WHEREAS, 60 percent of those persons who have epilepsy are elementary school ag,'~, o~ yOtlli{ler; and WilEREAS, in Minnesota there is approximately one child in every other classroom wilt; ~;I~ilepsy; and WIIEREAS, epilepsy is the second most common neurological disorder or physical im~};~i~r~,,r~t; and WI IEREAS, with early diagnosis and attention to medical, social and neurological aspects, rn~>r(.: pe,)ple will be able to bring their seizures under partial or full control; and WtlEREAS, everyone generally needs more information about epilepsy, its causes, ami wt~ai. (:an be done to help in order to change public attitudes from rejection to understanding0 ~-.,nd acceptance. NOW THEREFOF{I:!, BE 17' RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RAMSEY, Ar',IOKA COUNTY, STATE OF MINNESOTA, as follows: i) That the Ramsey City Council hereby proclaims November as Epilepsy Month in t?~o Ciiy ~;f Flarnsey. ;'. ) That through this effort all citizens will have a greater understanding of epilepsy so th;~t people with epilepsy will be better able to take their rightful place in the mainstream of American society.
