Councilmeml×~r i)cLuca introduced the following resolution and moved for its adoption: <br /> <br />RESOLUTION #89-11-314 <br /> <br />RESOLtJTI()N REQUESTING THE U.S. POSTAL SERVICE TO ASSIGN CITY <br />OF RAMSE¥ lI'S OWN ZIP CODE <br /> <br /> WllEREAS, postal delays, higher insurance rates and confusion occur when ZIP <br />Code bound~rk:s :ute inconsistent with Municipal boundaries; and <br /> <br /> Wi.VlEREAS, a recent survey by the National League of Cities found that more <br />than 2(X} cities and towns in at least 36 states are experiencing problems due to inconsistencies <br />between v_cl.u~l and mailing addresses; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, planning for the future of the City depends on, in part, sales tax and <br />employmm~t figt~res which are derived from state agencies using ZIP Codes as a means of <br />organizing ~hei~' i~formation by cities; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City of Ramsey estimates the 1989 population at nearly 13,000 <br /> <br />people; arid <br /> <br /> W.!tEREAS, the City of Ramsey is bounded by the Rum River on the East, the <br />Mississippi Ri,,,t;r on the South and the County boundary (which is also a regional boundary) on <br />the West; an0 <br /> <br /> W~tEREAS, an individualized ZIP Code for the City of Ramsey is a simple and <br />effective way ~ er&ance the City's individual identity. <br /> <br />NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY <br />OF RAMSEY~ ANOKA COUNTY, STATE OF MINNESOTA, as follows: <br /> <br /> t) That the Ramsey City Council hereby requests the U.S. Postal Service to assign <br />the City o-(' kan~scy its own individual ZIP Code. <br /> <br />The motion for' the adoption of the foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Councilmember <br />Pearson and up, m ,:ote being taken thereon, the following voted in favor thereof: <br /> <br />and the fbllo.wir~g voted against the same: <br /> <br />and the foliowir}g abstained: <br /> <br />None. <br /> <br />and the followi~ig were absent: <br /> <br />Resolution #89-11-314 <br />Page 1 of 2 <br /> <br /> <br />
