Counciln ~c~¥~l)c:t' I~eterson introduced the following resolution and moved for its adoption: <br /> <br />RESOLUTION #90-11-358 <br /> <br />RESOIJU'f'.~ON PRe)CLAIMING NOVEMBER TO BE EPILEPSY MONTH IN THE <br />CITY OF 14~/'~WJSEY <br /> <br /> WI~,;REAS, there are more than 100,000 Minnesotans with some form of epilepsy, <br />which is ~lot a ,ti:;._;ase but a disorder of the central nervous system; and <br /> <br /> Wll I~;I;~,'~S, these Minnesotans are a significant portion of some 2,000,000 Americans <br />from througk~o~_~t t~e country who have epilepsy; and <br /> <br /> WI I I.;[~:,[c, AS, 60 percent of those persons who have epilepsy are elementary school age <br />or youngest; v~,l <br /> <br /> WIII~;R}~id~S~ in Minnesota there is approximately one child in every other classroom <br />with epileD:qy; ;~cl <br /> <br /> V~/}II~;Rb;/kS, epilepsy is the second most common neurological disorder or physical <br />impairme~ it; <br /> <br /> WIiI:;I4[,;/~S, with early diagnosis and attention to medical, social and neurological <br />aspects m~>~',.~, l:~'x~i¢ ie will be able to bring their seizures under partial or full control; and <br /> <br /> W l]b;ltt I~;/~S, everyone generally needs more information about epilepsy, its causes, and <br />what can t~t: ,l~.;m.; to help in order to change public attitudes from rejection to understanding and <br />acceptant. ~. <br /> <br />NOW Ttt]~i,~I.~,iIC~}RE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY <br />OF RAMSI,;¥~ ,INOKA COUNTY, STATE OF MINNESOTA, as follows: <br /> <br />1) <br /> <br />']'hal ih~., City Council hereby proclaims November to be Epilepsy month in the City of <br /> <br />2) <br /> <br />'l'Ba! throt~!~h this effort all citizens will have a greater understanding of epilepsy will be <br />bel tee :_~t)l<: io take their rightful place in the mainstream of American society. <br /> <br />The motio~ f~t: ih<:, adoption of the foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Councilmember <br />Pearson a~d t~ [, m ,,otc being taken thereon, the following voted in favor thereof: <br /> <br />an¢l ire f'ollo,,x'ii~, voted against the same: <br /> <br />and the fi:~l t(-~w in ;, a'i)~,;tained: <br /> <br />No~l(: <br /> <br />and the ffol~o,.~,-i~?~ ¥.,'c:re absent: <br /> <br /> <br />
