Councilmcmbcr Peterson introduced the following resolution and moved for its adoption. RESOLUTION #91-05-125 RESOLUTION URGING THE ANOKA COUNTY BOARD TO ADOPT LOCAL OPTION SALES TAX WHEREAS, the final tax bill, which the Legislature passed on May 20, 1991 and Governor Carlson is expected to sign, contains new city aid cuts; and, WHEREAS, all local government aids will be eliminated within counties that do not adopt a Local Option Sales Tax increasing sales tax from 6% to 6-1/2%; and, WHEREAS, the State of Minnesota is to create a Local Government Trust Fund which is to receive a 2-cent total and provide total funding for non-school local aids, including LGA, HACA, disparity reduction aid, a portion of the recent income maintenance takeover and several smaller aid programs; and WHEREAS, cities are hopeful that the dedicated revenue source and removal of all city aids from the state general fund will provide greater stability and growth for city aids; and WHEREAS, in order to protect the state aid revenues to the City of Ramsey, the County of Anoka must ratify a sales tax that has been imposed by the State of Minnesota. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RAMSEY, ANOKA COUNTY, STATE OF MINNESOTA, AS FOLLOWS: 1) That the City of Ramsey urges the Anoka County Board to Adopt the Local Option Sales Tax. 2) That the City Administrator is directed to transmit a copy of this resolution to the Anoka County Board of Commissions on or before June 10, 1991. The motion for adoption of the foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Councilmember Beyer and upon vote being taken thereon, the following voted in favor thereof: Mayor Gilbertson Councilmember Peterson Councilmember Beyer Councilmember Hardin and the following voted against same: None and the following abstained: None and the following were absent: Councilmember Cich
