Councilmember Peterson introduced the following resolution and moved for its adoption: <br /> <br />RESOLUTION #91-09-206 <br /> <br />RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF LEVY FOR SCHOOLS - REIMBURSE- <br />MENT TO CITIES AND COUNTIES <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, in 1991, taxes payable in 1992, school districts may levy up to $1 <br />per student to reimburse cities and counties within the district for crime-related costs; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, this levy will reimburse for police and sheriff liaison services to <br />schools, D.A.R.E. programs, and salaries and benefits of police and sheriffs whose <br />primary responsibility is investigating drug-related crimes; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, during 1991 the City of Ramsey contributed $11.45 per participating <br />student for 225 Ramsey fifth graders, or a total of $2,576.25, in support of the D.A.R.E. <br />program; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, it is anticipated the City of Ramsey will receive a similar funding <br />request for the D.A.R.E. program for payable 1992; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, school districts can now levy for this special education and <br />reimburse cities and counties for their costs. <br /> <br />NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE <br />CITY OF RAMSEY, ANOKA COUNTY, STATE OF MINNESOTA, as <br />follows: <br /> <br />1) That the City of Ramsey hereby encourages school districts to adopt a crime-related <br />costs levy of up to $1 per student for the purpose of reimbursing cities and counties within <br />their district. <br /> <br />2) That the City of Ramsey hereby encourages school districts to distribute the <br />reimbursement funds on a per pupil basis. <br /> <br />3) That the City of Ramsey hereby proclaims Police Liaison Officer and D.A.R.E. <br />programs as top priority funding requests. <br /> <br />4) That the City Administrator be directed to transmit a certified copy of this resolution <br />to Anoka-Hennepin School District 4/11 and Elk River School District #728. <br /> <br />The motion for the adopting of the foregoing resolution was duly seconded by <br />Councilmember Cich and upon vote being taken thereon, the following voted in favor <br />thereof: <br /> <br />Mayor Gilbertson <br />Councilmember Peterson <br />Councilmember Cich <br />Councilmember Hardin <br />Councilmember Beyer <br /> <br />and the following voted against the same: <br /> <br />None <br /> <br /> <br />
