CC Regular Session Meeting Date: Primary Strategic Plan Initiative: 09/26/2023 Strive for high organizational morale and employee retention Information Title Authorization to Hire a Police Officer Filling a Current Vacancy in the Patrol Division Purpose/Background: The purpose of this case is to request the City Council to hire a Police Officer, backfilling a current Police Officer vacancy that was created when a Police Officer was promoted to Sergeant. Human Resources conducted an internal and external recruitment. Mr. Bryce Ehlers met the necessary training and experience threshold and was invited to take part in the City's interview process, the physical agility fitness testing and the "shoot/don't shoot" video scenario activity. Staff selected Mr. Ehlers as a finalist to be advanced through the pre -employment background testing. At this time, Chief Katers is recommending Mr. Ehlers for the position of Police Officer with the City of Ramsey. With the City Council's authorization, Mr. Ehlers will start as the City's newest Police Officer on or near October 2, 2023. Mr. Ehlers, as with all new Police Officers, will serve a 1-year probationary period and will be subject to the City's Personnel Policy and the LELS Patrol Labor Agreement. Funding Source: The funding required for this position is included in the 2023 budget and represents a saving over the previous employee in this role. Recommendation: To hire Mr. Bryce Ehlers as full-time Police Officer, effective on or near October 2, 2023 at $32.460 per hour, which is step 1 of the 2023 wage scale.
