5. 23. <br />CC Regular Session <br />Meeting Date: 09/26/2023 <br />Primary Strategic Plan Initiative: Not Applicable <br />Information <br />Title <br />Adopt Resolution #23-233 Proclaiming October 2023 Domestic Violence Awareness Month <br />Purpose/Background: <br />Purpose: To adopt a resolution showing the City of Ramsey's support in proclaiming Domestic Violence <br />Awareness Month. <br />Background: A request was received from the Alexandra House to formally recognize October as Domestic <br />Violence Awareness Month. A request for Domestic Violence Awareness was also received from the Purple <br />Lights initiative. Each year, throughout Anoka Country, October is officially recognized as Domestic Violence <br />Awareness Month. Counties and cities all over the United States take this opportunity to honor this month <br />through an official proclamation. In choosing to locally proclaim October as Domestic Violence Awareness <br />Month, the City of Ramsey shows its recognition of both the gravity of the problem and the importance of the <br />ongoing work to create a violence -free community in Anoka County. Council has adopted such resolution in the <br />past, and staff is requesting Council do so for 2023 as well. The proclamation will add to the chorus of voices <br />insisting that women, men, and children all have a right to seek peace and safety in their lives. <br />The City will be lighting portions of the City Municipal Center with purple lights to help raise awareness of <br />October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month. <br />A representative from Alexandra House will be attending the meeting to share a brief presentation about <br />Domestic Violence Awareness Month and answer any questions. <br />A copy of Ramsey's proclamation will be displayed at the Alexandra House and shared on social media. <br />Funding Source: <br />Not Applicable. <br />Recommendation: <br />Staff recommends Council adopt the resolution proclaiming October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month. <br />Action: <br />Motion to adopt Resolution #23-233 Proclaiming October 2023 Domestic Violence Awareness Month <br />Resolution #23-233 <br />Attachments <br />Form Review <br />Inbox Reviewed By Date <br />Brian Hagen Brian Hagen 09/21/2023 11:12 AM <br />
