7. 3. <br /> CC Regular Session <br /> Meeting Date: 10/24/2023 <br /> PrimaryStrategic Plan Initiative: Create a positive image for residential neighborhoods,business districts and key <br /> g corridors. <br /> Information <br /> Title: <br /> Adopt Ordinance#23-15,Amending Chapter 34 Regarding Tobacco and Cannabis Use of Public Property <br /> Purpose/Background: <br /> On October 10, 2023, City Council introduced Ordinance#23-15 Amending Chapter 24,regarding tobacco and <br /> cannabis use on public property. <br /> In summary, the ordinance prohibits smoking or vaping tobacco and cannabis on all city-owned or leased <br /> property, including city-owned vehicles and equipment. It will not prohibit the use of tobacco products within a <br /> vehicle by someone who is driving on city streets or sitting in a vehicle on public property. It allows smoking in <br /> designated areas as marked by signage. <br /> Notification: <br /> Notification is not required. <br /> Time Frame/Observations/Alternatives: <br /> Timeframe: <br /> After adoption of Ordinance#23-15, it becomes effective 30 days after publication. <br /> Alternatives: <br /> 1. Adopt the ordinance as presented. <br /> 2. Adopt the ordinance with changes. <br /> 3. Deny the adoption of the ordinance. <br /> Recommendation: <br /> City staff recommends the adoption of Ordinance#23-15 Amending Chapter 34 Regarding Tobacco and <br /> Cannabis Use on Public Property as presented. <br /> Outcome/Action: <br /> Motion to waive the City Charter Requirement that the Ordinance be read aloud and adopt Ordinance#23-15 <br /> Amending Chapter 34 Offenses and Miscellaneous Provisions,Article I.
